Full Deck Certification

Build teams that innovate better, collaborate better, and adapt faster.

Every team has strengths. And every team has blind spots.

The challenge is that the thinking a team already has isn’t necessarily the thinking it needs for the challenge in front of it.

Full Deck Certification™ equips leaders, facilitators, and internal change champions with a practical methodology for identifying those blind spots and turning different perspectives into an advantage.

Powered by Personality Poker® and Full Deck IQ™, you’ll learn how to help individuals understand how they think, diagnose the collective strengths and gaps of a team, and bring together the right perspectives for the work that needs to be done.

Because the goal isn’t to get everyone thinking the same way.
It’s to make sure you’re playing with a full deck.

Stephen M. Shapiro

A Message from Stephen Shapiro

What began as a simple card game revealed something much bigger.

For more than two decades, I’ve helped organizations around the world improve innovation and collaboration using Personality Poker®.

The most important insight isn’t just understanding who you are.
It’s understanding who you are not.

We naturally gravitate toward people who think like us. But the people who see the world differently are often the people who possess exactly what we’re missing.

Personality Poker makes those differences visible and creates the conversation. Full Deck IQ turns those insights into actionable team intelligence. And the Full Deck methodology teaches you what to do with what you discover.

That’s what this certification is about. Not learning how to run a card game. Learning how to help teams play with a full deck.

The Problem

The problem isn’t a lack of personality data.

Organizations know more about their people than ever before. Personality profiles. Strengths assessments. Engagement surveys. Culture studies. Employee data.

But knowing more about people doesn’t necessarily change how they work together.

A report might tell you that two people think differently. It doesn’t necessarily teach them how to use those differences. And it doesn’t tell a leader whether the team has the right mix of thinking for the particular challenge they’re trying to solve.

The Full Deck methodology starts with a different set of questions:

  • How do we naturally approach problems?
  • What perspectives dominate our team?
  • What perspectives are missing?
  • Where might those blind spots be hurting collaboration, innovation, or execution?
  • What thinking does this particular challenge require?
  • And how do we get more of what we’re missing?

That’s where awareness becomes action.

The Full Deck Methodology

From individual insight to team performance.

Full Deck Certified practitioners learn a simple process for moving from what people notice to what teams actually do.

1

Discover What’s in the Deck

Using Personality Poker®, participants discover how they naturally think and work. They identify their strong suits, recognize potential blind spots, and experience firsthand why some people and approaches feel natural while others can be frustrating.

Unlike traditional assessments, the experience isn’t about putting people into boxes. It’s about starting a conversation.

Because self-awareness isn’t the destination. It’s the starting point.

2

See What’s Missing

A group of talented individuals doesn’t automatically create a well-equipped team. Using the four-suits framework and Full Deck IQ™, practitioners learn how to examine the collective deck.

  • Where are we strong?
  • Which perspectives dominate?
  • What’s underrepresented?
  • Where might our natural tendencies be creating blind spots?

Does the thinking we have match the thinking this challenge requires?

The objective isn’t to create perfectly balanced teams. It’s to have the right deck for the challenge.

3

Put the Full Deck to Work

Identifying a gap doesn’t change anything. Doing something about it does.

Certified Full Deck Practitioners learn how to turn insight into action. That might mean bringing a different voice into a decision. Changing who’s involved in solving a problem. Reframing a challenge. Structuring a meeting differently. Improving communication between opposing thinking styles. Changing how work is assigned. Or recognizing that the team needs a perspective it simply doesn’t have.

The goal isn’t insight for insight’s sake. It’s better decisions, better collaboration, and better results.

What You’ll Learn to Do

Well beyond learning how to facilitate Personality Poker.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Facilitate engaging Personality Poker experiences that turn insight into conversation
  • Help individuals identify their strong suits, blind spots, and missing perspectives
  • Diagnose team thinking patterns using the four-suits framework
  • Use Full Deck IQ to uncover patterns that aren’t obvious at the individual level
  • Recognize when dominant thinking styles are limiting a team
  • Identify the perspectives a specific challenge requires
  • Improve collaboration between people who naturally approach problems differently
  • Help teams bring missing perspectives into decisions and problem solving
  • Assemble teams more intentionally around the work that needs to be done
  • Turn Full Deck insights into specific actions and behavioral commitments
  • Apply the methodology to innovation, collaboration, leadership, team effectiveness, and change
  • Keep the conversation alive long after the initial Personality Poker experience

You’ll leave with more than an activity you can facilitate.
You’ll have a methodology you can apply to real organizational challenges.

Full Deck Challenge Canvas™

Move from “Who are we?” to “What does this challenge require?” Practitioners learn a simple process for examining a real business challenge:

  • What’s the challenge?
  • What thinking does it require?
  • What’s in our current deck?
  • What’s missing?
  • How do we bring that thinking into the room?

This turns Full Deck thinking into a practical tool for real decisions, projects, and problems.

Full Deck Interventions

Learn what to do when the deck reveals a gap. You’ll explore practical interventions for common situations, including dominant thinking styles, missing perspectives, communication friction, stalled innovation, weak execution, and teams that keep approaching problems in the same way.

Why It Works

They don’t receive a report telling them who they are.

For more than 20 years, Personality Poker® has helped teams around the world achieve in minutes what many traditional programs struggle to accomplish in months. There’s a simple reason.

They experience their differences together.

They trade. They negotiate. They laugh. They disagree. They recognize themselves in the cards.

And they begin seeing the people around them differently. One of the most common reactions is:

“I finally understand why they think that way.”

But the Full Deck methodology takes the conversation further. Instead of asking only:

Who am I?

We also ask:

Who am I not?

And ultimately:

What does this team need that we don’t naturally have?

Because who you are not may be exactly what your team needs.

The Objective

Don’t build better people. Build better decks.

The objective isn’t to turn a Diamond into a Club. It isn’t to make everyone equally creative, analytical, organized, and empathetic. And it isn’t to get everyone thinking the same way.

The goal is to recognize what each person naturally brings, understand what’s missing, and bring together the perspectives required for the challenge at hand.
